General Music Pedagogies Class:
During the summer of 2015 I participated in a week long intensive General Music Pedagogies Class, with master teacher Lorrie Heagy. The topics we covered included; the principles of Kodaly, scaffolding lessons to successfully teach singing and movement/dance, brain-compatible lesson planning, African drumming and ensemble, positive classroom management, the principles of Suzuki, El Sistema and music for social change, Feierabend, the Alaska Music Standards and the Juneau School District (JDS) music curriculum, Game Plan.

The skills I acquired in this course through hands-on experience have been essential throughout my year long internship as a student teacher in the music classroom.
This course concluded with a three day internship at the Juneau Jazz and Classics Summer Strings Workshop, where we got to put our new training to use. For more in-depth information and reflection about my experiences in this General Music Pedagogies Class see this blog post which included sample lesson plans from the workshop.
